Mia Melina Melosa Moups heard many different kinds of musical groups. She heard orchestras, brass bands and several symphonies. Quartets and duets and trios in threes.

She listened to all of these groups to hear each of the instruments she loved so dear. That’s when Mia decided that things could be better; to hear all of her favorite instruments together.

So Mia set out to find musicians to play, but when they heard her idea they said, “No Way!” “All of these instruments together in one group? That’s a silly idea Mia Melina Melosa Moups!”

Mia thought to herself, “I’ll go some place new. But where could I go? I’ll go to the zoo!” Then off she went to find her musicians. Animals to play in all the positions.

“Now which one could play the accordion and be strong enough to press the keys in? He’ll need to be a bellow inflator, I know! I’ll ask the …

… alligator!”

“Next on my list is the wooden Bassoon, who’s great low sound could fill up a room. She’ll need some lips to play that tune. I know! I’ll ask the …

… baboon!”

“How good could we be without clarinet? The smoothest black instrument I’ve ever met. With shiny round keys and a reed that lies flat, I know! I’ll ask the …

… cat!”

“Oh, how I love the Didgeridoo! Beautifully made and carved from wood too. This Australian instrument came from a log. I know! I’ll ask the …

… dog!”

“We need to include the tiny Egg Shaker, But who could be gentle and dare not break her? It would be so great for our music event. I know! I’ll ask the …

… elephant!”

“Next in line is the fantastic flute. A tube shaped woodwind with a silver suit. There will be no solos or spotlights to hog, I know! I’ll ask the …

… frog!”

“It wouldn’t be right without a gong adding earth shaking notes to our song. Who could crash the wonderful note? I know! I’ll ask the …

… goat!”

“Soon I’d like to add the harp. Those forty-seven strings sure sound sharp. That is a sound that I do prefer. I know! I’ll ask the …

… hamster!”

“Now to include the Irish Whistle. To my ears it brings a tickle. I’ll add it just because I wanna. I know! I’ll ask the …

… iguana!”

“I’d also like some jingle bells. It’s a sound that really sells. That would truly be my wish. I know! I’ll ask the …

… jellyfish!”

“While I am at it, I’ll add the kazoo. A small wind instrument you can hum through. I’ll search for someone who will be true. I know! I’ll ask the …

… kangaroo!”

“We also need to have a lute, with strings and round belly it looks so cute. I need to find a creature to try on, I know! I’ll ask the …

… lion!”

“To spice up our group, some maracas will do. They’re dried up fruit shells and pebbles too. Now all we need is some help to play funky? I know! I’ll ask the …

… monkey!”

“The next one I want is called the nay. It can play low and it can play high. An Arabian woodwind for someone to toot. I know! I’ll ask the …

… newt!”

“Oh please let me hear the sound of oboe. Through two small reeds the air must blow. I think it would be totally awesome. I know! I’ll ask the …

… opossum!”

“Let’s also add the piano. Whose keys can play from high to low. Who can join this group of mine? I know! I’ll ask the …

… porcupine!”

“Coming up next in my group is the quinto. A type of conga drum that I know. Which kind of animal will not fail? I know! I’ll ask the …

… quail!”

“I just can’t get enough of recorder. Playing it will surely be a tall order. But who can play it from July to June? I know! I’ll ask the …

… raccoon!”

“Next on my list is the saxophone. A single reed woodwind that should be blown. With jazzy hip rhythms and a super cool funk. I know! I’ll ask the …

… skunk!”

“I need the great big tuba for its very low oom pah duba. Who in the zoo is big enough to try her? I know! I’ll ask the …

… tiger!”

“I will not forget my ukulele. I’ll strum on the strings. I’ll strum them daily. I need a horse that has just one horn. I know! I’ll ask the …

… unicorn!”

“Please, let me add the viola too. Bowing the string right on cue. How many strings? I am not sure. I know! I’ll ask the …

… vulture!”

“Now I’ll bring in the loud wood block. Great rhythms and patterns he will knock. Someone that taps. But who could be better? I know! I’ll ask the …

… wood pecker!”

“Who could play the xylophone? With each bar on it that makes a tone. Someone with a long nose. Who could play this? I know! I’ll ask the … … xiphias!”

“I’m almost through, but here’s the yueqin. A Chinese stringed instrument that can join in. No sound hole or bridge, just a neck and back. I know! I’ll ask the …

… yak!”

“And now for my last, the wonderful zither. Another stringed instrument to make them come hither. But who will play it? No, not the cheetah. I know! I’ll ask the …

… zebra!”.

At last Mia’s musical group was complete. Some played with their horns and some with their feet. Together they made the most beautiful sound, and people came to hear them from miles around. They asked, “How’d you create an idea so wild?” Mia looked up and then she said as she smiled, “You’ll be amazed at the wonderful things you can do when you challenge yourself to try something new!”
