John is a typical senior athlete who loves running and competing in cross-country. As a captain of the high school cross-country team, John finds out that there are quite a large number of problems he has to deal with. His ultimate goal is to see his small high school cross-country team make it all the way to the state cross-country championships. However, along the way he has to deal with injuries, conflicts between team members, legal technicalities, and ultimately a showdown with the biggest schools in the state in a classic match-up of David versus Goliath.
